Areff was founded in 2000 in Ronneby, Sweden by Bernt Karlsson and in doing so Areff developed its own RFID key fob, the Sail. At this time, there were only a few RFID key tags on the market and the Sail, with its modern design, had a great impact on the European market.
During the early 2000s the product offering changed towards more customized solutions, where engraved and printed customer logos was an important feature. During the mid-2000s Areff also began to supply RFID products adapted to more than one system. In 2006 Fredrik Martinsson became shareholder of the company to strengthen Areffs technical profile. This was done to meet the more extensive requirements of security and complexity from the market. During this period Areff also launched its RFID lab. During the late 2000s, Areff was established as a major supplier in Sweden for access and security solutions.
In 2010 the Service Bureau for processing of cards and other access components was started. At the same time a production line for mailing of loyalty cards and membership cards was initiated. Later on the same year Areff became the Swedish representative for Nisca card printers and establishes Areff as a complete supplier of travel card for public transport. Areff is also accredited by the Swedish Construction Federation to manufacture ID06 cards.
Starting in 2011 and onwards Areff in a greater extent began to develop RFID systems or parts of RFID systems containing software. This resulted in many new customers and market opportunities – now Areff could deliver RFID solutions not only to the traditional security industry, but also to industrial players and service companies. In 2013 Areff was set to be official dealer for HID Fargo on the Swedish market.
In 2014 Areff became the official dealer for Suprema Biometric RFID solutions on the Swedish market.
